The type of Physical Therapy we use to get results:
Active Release Technique (ART): Active Release Technique is a form of deep tissue massage where the patient is actively contracting the muscle while the PT is applying pressure over the muscle. This is an extremely effective way to find knots embedded deep in the muscles of your body. Through ART, many of these knots can be released allowing your muscles to relax and function as they should.
Soft Tissue Mobilization: A manual technique performed to break up any adhesions that are causing restrictions in the body. These adhesions can consist of fibrous tissue (scar tissue), inelastic tissue, tissue fluids or any other tissue that is misaligned. The goal of this treatment is to realign the tissue and remove restrictions.
Myofascial Release: A highly effective manual technique that focuses on applying pressure to myofascial (fascial system - connective tissue) restrictions to restore efficient movement patterns and decrease pain.
Manual Therapy: The ‘hands-on’ approach, sometimes referred to as ‘bodywork’. It requires 45 minutes of one-on-one treatment. It is the premier method that we use to help remove restrictions in tissue. Along with removing these restrictions, manual therapy will promote relaxation, decrease pain, improve range of motion, strengthen tissue, and help improve movement patterns. Manual therapy will consist of soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, muscle energy techniques, active release, glides, strengthening, massage and other techniques.
Active Isolated Stretch Technique: This technique is based on the theory of reciprocal inhibition: the muscles on one side of a joint will relax when the muscles on the other side of the joint contact. This is done through application of manual pressure by the physical therapist. It can be used to increase range of motion, lengthen muscles in spasm or shortened and strengthen muscles.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation: PNF is a form of manual therapy that uses the body’s proprioceptive system to inhibit or facilitate a muscle. PNF incorporates stretching and contraction of the muscle that is being targeted.
Post-Operative Rehabilitation: These programs follow specific post-surgical protocols focusing on the individual’s specific surgery details as laid out by your surgeon. Once your Physical Therapy has got you back to managing your everyday activity in a pain free manner, your program will start to focus on addressing the imbalances that may have led to the injury. Your Physical Therapist will work to ensure that you get back to your passion feeling stronger, more balanced and healthier than ever.
Motion and Biomechanical Analysis: Biomechanics is the study of human motion. By finding biomechanical faults, we can help treat an injury, prevent future injuries and help you move more efficiently. Longo PT therapists are certified to assess the Golf and Baseball Swing through Titleist Performance Institute and On Base University’s screening techniques.
Strength and Mobility Training: Our Physical Therapists are Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) or have an advance degree in Exercise Physiology so whether you have strength deficits or decreased mobility in an area (muscle or joint), we will design a program that will address these problems while simultaneously decreasing pain and removing movement dysfunction. Our treatments employ a variety of techniques (progressive resistive exercise, isometric, plyometric) to improve your overall strength. Regarding flexibility, we use all forms of treatment necessary to improve the mobility of your joints or tissues.
Blood Flow Restriction Training: BFR is a technique that combines low intensity exercise with blood flow occlusion to produce similar results to high intensity training. Through the use of a safe approved compression system, Physical Therapists are able to mimic the effects of high intensity exercise without the mechanical stress on your joints. This allows a physical therapist to reduce atrophy and restore strength immediately following an injury. More importantly, it will return patients back to their desired level of function or activity.
Balance Reintegration Training: Your balance is like a muscle, if you exercise it, it will get stronger. Your balance system is made up of six components; your eyes (most dominant), your inner ears, your proprioceptors in your legs, the pressure sensors on the bottom of your feet, your leg strength and your leg flexibility. All play a vital role in keeping you on your feet. The less active we become, the weaker our balance system becomes. We have a proprietary program called 28 Days to better balance that strengthens all six components of you balance system in static (while standing) and dynamic (while moving) fashion.

Still have Questions?
We’ve collated the most frequent ones here and provided answers.
Q: Do I need a prescription before I come to see you?
A: CA State allows ‘direct access’ which means you can come to Longo Physical Therapy and Personal Training for any injury, movement dysfunction or pain that you may be experiencing without seeing a medical practitioner first. Depending upon the severity and complexity of your condition, you may be required to get a prescription from a doctor. We have an excellent network of professionals that we can refer you to.
Q: How much will my Physical Therapy Treatment Cost? Is there a Copay?
A: Before your Physical Therapy evaluation, we will gather all the demographic information that is needed for us to run a comprehensive review of your insurance plan, analyzing your benefits, and identifying any limitations. After verifying the current status of your plan, we’ll communicate your guaranteed coinsurance responsibility and reach agreement to ensure total transparency protecting us all from any unexpected costs along the way.
Q: I don’t have out-of-network benefits. Am I excluded from receiving Longo PT Treatments?
A: We see many patients who have an out of pocket payment plan that has been devised to match their treatment plan. We are happy to talk openly and honestly about what you need and how we can help you!
Q: Do you take health insurance?
A: Yes. We accept all major health plans that have out-of-network benefits. If you are uncertain, we offer a complete insurance plan consultation before you schedule.
Q: Why is Longo PT out-of-network? I pay my insurance premiums – so shouldn’t I just see an in-network provider?
A: The low reimbursement rates and high costs of operation in CA forces In-network providers of physical therapy to adopt a factory approach to treatment; patient overcrowding, provision delivered by unlicensed trainers, PT aides and unsupervised exercise with very limited attention from a PT. By opting out of the major networks, we are restricted by the number of patients that can use our service, but we can stay true to our treatment model.
We are proud to offer high levels of care customized to your goals and needs. Embracing the one PT to one patient model of care, all locations schedule 45 min patient visits exclusively with a licensed Physical Therapist. We know that quality care delivered in a thoughtful and attentive manner will get you better faster and with less frequency/volume of visits. As an out-of-network provider, we are choosing to see one patient at a time, allowing pain relief while addressing the imbalances, weaknesses and dysfunction that is the likely cause for the pain in the first place. The luxury of time allows for education and coaching to empower our patients to reduce pain, build resilience and improve performance in the long term. This would simply not be possible under the constraints of in-network provision.
Q: Can my Health Saving Account (HSA) pay for my out-of-network visits?
A: Yes. If you have a high deductible PPO plan along with an HSA, you can utilize this account to pay for your care.
